Covenant Sanctum in WoW Shadowlands 9.0.1

Covenants FAQ:

  1. Choosing a covenant is a very important and required gameplay in Shadowlands. The game will literally force you to choose one of the four existing covenants. This will happen almost immediately after reaching level 60 on your main character.
  2. On secondary characters, covenant can be selected immediately after completing the starting chain of quests in The Maw, namely at level 51. At the same time, the development of the plot and the covenant abode will only begin at level 60 of the character.
  3. Choosing the right covenant at the beginning of character development will help you reduce the amount of farming in the first weeks of the game while mastering a mythic raid. However, it is very likely that players will have to constantly change covenants depending on the specialization of talents or the mastered boss in the mythic raid difficulty.

FAQ on changing covenant:

  1. You can change covenant in Oribos in the central hall with Bolvar. Talk to the representative of the covenant you are interested in, and he will offer an option to change covenant.
  2. Changing covenant is a very important and serious decision. For the next 7 days from the moment of covenant change, you will not be able to return to the covenant you left. It is recommended to finish (complete) all current quests and spend all covenant resources, as they will not be transferred to the new covenant.
  3. It is not possible to complete 2 quests at the same time to return to the covenant where you have already been. You must first complete the first initial quest to successfully enter the covenant.
  4. Changing a covenant to one you have never been to and one you have already been to is very different. The table below summarizes and describes in as much detail as possible all the differences between such covenant changes.
  5. Some transmogs, illusions and maunts are attached to a specific covenant, when you change covenant, you will no longer be able to use them.

Examples of covenant changes:

Below is an example of what happens when changing covenant while mastering mythic raid progression. In addition, this example also spells out what to farm and why exactly it should be done.

  • As an example, I started out as a mage in the frost specialization, choosing Venthyr covenant on the first day. At the end of the first week of Mythic Raid, my raid leader (RL) told me that on Sire Denathrius (the final boss) I needed a mage in the fire specialization with the Night Fae covenant - for the sake of the character having the death-protect seed ability (Soulbind passive talent).
  • At the end of the first week of the mythic raid (week four of Shadowlands), my character already had level 16 Renown, some buildings and improvements in Venthyr Covenant.
  • In Oribos I change my character's Venthyr covenant, to the new Night Fae covenant, this action was accomplished in literally a few clicks. I immediately take the quests to return to the Venthyr covenant (2 quests with a recovery period of 7 days).
  • When I pledge allegiance to Night Fae Covenant, all resources of the covenant's abode, Renown, and buildings are reset to zero. I have to farm Renown before the raid to get the Soulbind I need and get the +2% stamina bonuses from Renown. I won't be able to farm level 16 Renown on the first day, so I'll only have level 8 Renown for the next raid.
  • After 2 weeks, I've done the quest to return to Venthyr covenant, but we haven't killed Sire Denathrius yet because of the New Year holidays. It's still too early to return to Venthyr Covenant, so I'm leaving the quest to return to Venthyr done.
  • After another week, we finally managed to kill Sire Denathrius. Now my character can return to the Venthyr covenant, for the sake of playing a mage in the Frost specialization. At this point, the character already had a level 26 Renown with the Night Fae covenant, as well as a completed quest to return back to the Venthyr covenant.
  • I turn in the quest and return to Venthyr. My character is returned to level 16 Renown with the Venthyr covenant. In addition, all the resources and buildings that the character had before the covenant change are returned. I upgrade my Renown level and buildings to the level they were when I left the Night Fae covenant.

A complete list of what will never change when you change covenant:

  1. All legendary items and Soul Ash, remain permanently with your character.
  2. The progress you receive in Torghast and The Maw, are not canceled or changed.
  3. All conduits and their level, except the conduit for the ability of a particular covenant.
  4. All worn equipment items as well as those in bags, including the covenant set.
  5. Reputation with all factions from SL and other versions of the game, never reset.
  6. Absolutely all resources except Reservoir Anima and Redeemed Soul, remain unchanged.
